I reached out to Jacob after struggling to teach myself some basic sound/video techniques and not understanding some equipment I had purchased. I get overwhelmed easily with learning new things on my own, especially when it's something completely out of my wheelhouse; and I don't learn well from instruction manuals. So I explained to him that I needed someone to show me exactly how to use the equipment I had and tell me exactly what programs to use. I think I specifically said, "Don't give me options; it'll be too overwhelming. Just tell me: Buy this. Download this." And Jacob was 100% able to do exactly what I needed. I sent him links to the equipment I had, and he took the time beforehand to research some of the specs, showed me how to use them, and then followed up afterwards with links to better equipment for when I was ready to upgrade, as well as links to tutorials. (Again, I need information spoonfed to me; so this was helpful.) As far as teaching, Jacob knows that people learn by doing. So after he would show me how to hook something up, or record audio on a specific program, he would make me do it on my own to ensure I had retained the knowledge. This is huge for beginners and super helpful. Plus, when we weren't able to cover all the things I had initially planned, Jacob graciously offered to return to finish teaching me what I needed.
